Bell Bird Feeder.

This is some video taken today, of the general scene with the bird feeder bell. Now that the birds have got the trick of how to use it. When I first put it up I just hung it from the cherry tree, by a length of fence wire. But the birds would fly up to it. hover, try to peck at the nuts through the perspex. then fly off. never seeing the entrance. So I hung the plastic rail across the bottom. Strung some peanuts and also a waxball on this. They would feed on the waxball ball. but never enter the bell. So that the nuts started to go moldy. So I cleaned them out., just putting a small amount in. Then I found that crushing a waxball and putting it, in the tray, while also re-locating the bell into this bush, had just the right effect on a family of young blue tits. Some of which were cleverer than their other siblings and would not let them in the bell. Even if there was enough to feed the whole lot for a week. It cost a lot, especially at first when it did not seem as if it would ever work. But now that it is, the way it keeps the seed dry and only the small agile birds can use it.As you can see the grey squirrel could not get near it, for all its efforts. Fortunately there are no Raccoons in this country. Lets hope that some of the fans of Pro-idee have a look at this. Dave
