Squirrel-Be-Gone Bird Feeding Tube – 8 lb

This feeder did work better than any other I had tried, in terms of keeping squirrels away. After a few weeks, the squirrels (who had broken several of my other feeders) got frustrated and stopped coming to my porch.
However, this feeder is almost impossible to clean. It’s long and narrow, and the metal lid doesn’t detach completely, so you can’t get down inside to scrub it. Also, the plastic gets discolored over time, so if you’re looking at the feeder from a few feet away, you can’t see how much food is left inside it.
And the birds don’t seem to like it very much.

I’ve had two of these. The first worked well in keeping the squirrels away for a while and eveually they chewed through the plastic and the spring broke. The second one broke after the first filling – the springs on the side and the spring from the top. Will not get another.

This piece of junk only lasted 3 weeks. The rod attaching the lid/hanger piece broke.

I hang mine USING WEED WACKER STRING from an unobstructed tree limb about 15 feet off the ground.
SQUIRRELS WILL NOT CLIMB DOWN WEED WACKER STRING!! I am in Georgia and the squirrels here are big so I don’t know what will happen with small squirrels but for 10 years they have never climbed down the WW string on any of my feeders.
What did happen was this… the tree trunk is about 4 feet away. The squirrel’s leap off the trunk and slam into the feeder. They have not been able to grab hold and have stopped trying since they don’t like falling to the ground.
I AM concerned that the springs will not hold up and am looking to purchase a replacement set before it becomes an issue.
For thse of you saying the squirrel hangs upside down. The WW string is too slick for them. At least it works for me and I’m grateful. You may also want to take a clear plastic soda bottle and cut the bottom off it and then slide it onto the string to REALLY make it impossible to fall onto it from above but you don’t have to.

It worked for a while but now the squirrels do bend the leafs and chew up the plastic around the holes. The leafs should be more rigid and as someone said before, there should be metal around the holes. We have four including a three chambers one. They’re all broken except for one that’s on its last leg.
