This is my favorite feeder. We have three in our backyard!

Easy to fill. Easy to clean. Matches our porch-lights perfectly.

I bought these as gifts for families with young children. For that purpose they were wonderful gifts.

For my taste I prefer the tube-type feeders with metal around the feeding ports to keep squirrels from destroying the feeder. However, those are too expensive to give to just anyone.

For an attractive, reasonably priced beginner feeder, this works well.

We got our first feeder by Berkshire as a freebe sent to my husband as a premium. The birds loved it. Gale force winds last March caused the bottom to come off and our dog, a very large dog, chewed on it for a time until I discovered what had happened. There was a puncture in the side about the size of a quarter which I filled in with epoxy. It’s still in use to this day. Branches very near the feeder are often seen holding as many as two dozen birds from American goldfinch to cardinals, pine warblers, blue jay, even a bluebird. So I bought a second feeder before those hungry birds gang up on me! For a video of a busy feeder see: [...]

  4. I keep this feeder in the tree in front of our front door, and have stopped keeping food in it – the large holes along the ledge (where the food comes out) meant that every time a crow or jay landed on the ledge, the food spilled out – and I wish I’d known then that certain kinds of bird seed actually sprouts into weeds. Anyway, it’s really cute as a decorative piece more than anything – otherwise, if you’re a hard-core bird lover, I’d stick with something a bit more realistic for actual bird feeding (and not weed-growing).

I bought this feeder several weeks ago and love it! I’ve got mine mounted on a shepherd’s hook. It’s sturdy and holds a good amount of seed. There is a tendency for seed to spill from the bottom, but our ground-feeding birds clean that up so no problem there. We’ve had chickadees, finches, cardinals and sparrows at this feeder. The ledge is narrow, as another reviewer mentioned, but for me this was actually a good thing as it’s the one feeder that the crows can’t commandeer away from the smaller birds. I’m getting ready to buy a second one.
